This past Good Friday one of the greatest things that can happen in a person’s life happened to not one, but TWO of my kids. It is the day parents pray about over and over. My first born (twins) were Baptized! I cannot think of a better way to start off Easter weekend than celebrating my children becoming born again Christians.
Our twins are only 8 years old, but they have been asking to be baptized for a while now. We didn’t turn them away, but we wanted to make sure they were ready and really understood what they were asking and what it meant. While reading our devotional one night a few weeks ago our daughter asked again, and this time we knew they were ready. We were reminded of this verse, Mark 10: 13-16
The Little Children and Jesus
13People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” 16And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.
We talked to them about it a little bit more and about the symbolism behind it and discussed how they wanted it to happen. They talked about doing it in the creek here on our farm and at first we were going to make that happen, but the more they thought about it, they changed their minds. The idea of using a trough was mentioned and it seemed to stick so that’s the direction we went. My husband’s Uncle is ordained so we asked him to perform the ceremony.
We had just finished our chicken coop/garden area and the chicken coop sort of looked like a tiny little church, so we decided to place the trough out in front of it. I made a cross out of some old fence posts we had and decorated it with a simple piece of white fabric and placed the trough in front of it. I moved our farm tables to the side and used the benches for seating in front. It turned out to be beautiful outside and everything came together perfectly. I really don’t think it could have gone any better. After the baptism was preformed, we told everyone to grab a bench and move it to the tables and we had dinner.
I am so thankful for the way we live our lives and all the blessings we have received. In the past two years our lives have changed so much, but I truly believe this is where we are supposed to be. I cannot think of a better way to raise my kinds than on a farm surrounded by family. Every day we get to enjoy God’s beautiful creation and I pray they never take that for granted. Knowing that they have given their hearts to the Lord is my proudest accomplishment as a mother and insures me that I am at least doing one thing right.
