This past weekend we took a mini vacation to the Central Texas area to attend San Antonino Vintage Market Days. A month or so ago I was asked to attend as an influencer, which is not something I’ve ever done before, but I couldn’t pass it up. I mean getting to shop an entire area filled with antiques is right up my ally.
One of our favorite things to do when planning a vacation is finding the prefect house to stay in. Blake always find the best houses, and this time was no different. We ended up spending the weekend in a 100 year old house. I mean wow! I tried to model our house after a 100 year old house, so it was a dream to stay in this house. It has so much character and so many neat things. I love visiting old homes and thinking about all the stories it could tell. My kids are really into old things as well so they all enjoyed the house and getting to learn things about it. I took note of some really neat things that I would like to incorporate into our house. Hopefully soon you’ll see some wallpaper somewhere around here. I’ve been wanting to do it for a while and I think I have finally sold Blake on it now that he has seen it in person.
This old house had an amazing amount of windows many of which lined a dog trot porch and the most fabulous sun/breakfast room, but the windows weren’t the only great thing about this property. From the hardwood floors, the 6 fireplaces, and the wrap-around porch, all 6,000 sq. ft. were ripe with character and charm. Even the shape of the house was unique and charming. The entirety of the house was built in the shape of a giant “U”, with the interior of the “U” making a secluded courtyard. Every inch of space in this house, and the property in general, was taken advantage of and used functionally. This functionality coupled with the attention to detail and charisma the house had made it have a timeless feel, and it makes me happy that we chose to go a similar route with our own home.
Friday we woke up early and headed to the Vintage Market Days in Borne, Texas. There were so many amazing booths we made our way through them twice to make sure we got to look at everything. All of us, kids included found some goodies, and I cant wait to decorate with all my finds. The next day we drove into Comfort, Texas for some more antiquing, and found some other great things, and brought a few more home with us. Comfort was a neat little town, and had quite a few high-end antique shops all within walking distance. If you ever find yourself in the area, it is well worth a small detour.
As always, we were glad to make it back home. We picked up our two inside dogs on the way thru town ,the kids were excited to check on all the animals, and the animals were just as excited to see them. As much as I like a little getaway every now and then I there is nothing like being at home.
My dream one day is to own my antique shop and travel with my husband looking for unique finds. Do you have a favorite town to antique in? I’d love to hear about it and maybe add it to our list of places we’d like to visit. Whats your favorite item you’ve ever found?
